Yes, finally a decision that makes sense coming out of Morocco:
The Great Said Aouita (and I am a huge fan of the guy) was just nominated the technical director of the moroccan atheletism federation. Well it's about time.

Good news in deed, but I doubt that he'll be able to act freely and make his own decisions. I hope I will wrong.
I just heard one big "Shouha" (it's an embarrassment in Moroccan , Tima  ) which happened during this past Olympics. Some of our Moroccan Olympic delegation took the liberty to issue two "coach
tags" to some of the delegation members relatives who happened to be present in Beijing so they can access the field and be close to all actions. But at
the same time they deprived two real coaches from being closer and with their athletes. Unfortunately, as long as a mentality like this doesn't change, I
doubt that Aouita or anyone else can do much to promote athletism in morocco.

Aouita was once the technical director of moroccan athletism, and he quit for the same reasons you mention:
The time was the early 90s when Aouita had just gone into retirement. At the same time, the athletism federation was headed by mahamed mediouri who was also King Hassan's chief of security and who also happened to be the director of the Kawkab club (all the sports included, yes football and track too). The problem was that mediouri wanted only the athletes from kawkab to make it to the national team of track and field. Aouita did not agree and left his post to go join Qatar. That convinced me of the integrity of Aouita. Needless to say, his competence and know how in the subject matter are unmatched. This will create a combination that, should Morocco have telent, such talent will come to the fore. Nevertheless, time will tell. mekki |

How is it going bro.? just a follow up on Aouita's subject: I just read on a Moroccan newspaper that Aouita is thinking of leaving his job as a director of the Moroccan Athletism, and that proves what I always said about our Beloved country: the old school gang simply don't like the changes. And Aouita refused to say anything more then he was under a lot of pressure, but refused to say from whom. |
